Oven not heating
On electric ovens, usually a burnt-out bake element, often with a visible break or blister, or a blown thermal fuse. On gas ovens, most often a weak igniter that glows but never opens the gas valve.

These are the oven faults Oak Bay homeowners call us about most, with the causes we usually find. Bake and broil elements, igniters, temperature sensors and door gaskets are stocked in our vans, so most ovens are baking again after the first visit.
On electric ovens, usually a burnt-out bake element, often with a visible break or blister, or a blown thermal fuse. On gas ovens, most often a weak igniter that glows but never opens the gas valve.
Food burning or coming out underdone usually points to a faulty temperature sensor, a failing element or a control that needs recalibrating.
A failed convection fan or element, one of the two heating elements not working, or a worn door gasket letting heat escape from one side.
Worn door gaskets and broken or bent hinges let heat leak out, slow down preheating and leave the front of the oven too hot.
A door lock motor or switch that fails during self-clean can leave the door stuck. The high heat of the cycle also commonly blows thermal fuses and damages controls.
A failed touchpad, control board or relay can blank the display, ignore key presses or show a fault code. We read the code and test the circuit before replacing anything.
Oven won't turn off or smoke inside? Switch it off at the breaker and, on a gas oven, close the gas supply valve. Keep the door shut so any flame inside has no air, never force a door that is locked after self-clean, and call us.

The price depends on which part has failed, and you get the exact figure before any work starts. A bake or broil element, igniter, temperature sensor or door gasket sits at the lower end, while a control board, convection motor or gas valve costs the most. The service call fee is waived when you go ahead with the repair.
Yes, in most cases: call before noon and we can usually have your oven heating again the same day. We are open every day from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., weekends included, and we tell you up front if a part has to be ordered.
On an electric oven the most common cause is a burnt-out bake element, and you can often see a break or blister on it. On a gas oven it is usually a weak igniter that glows but never gets hot enough to open the gas valve. Before you call, check that the breaker has not tripped and that a delay-start or timer setting is not active.
A faulty temperature sensor is the most common reason an oven runs hot or cold. To check, place an oven thermometer on the middle rack, preheat to 350°F (175°C) and read it after 20 minutes. If it is off by more than about 25°F (15°C), many ovens let you adjust the offset in their settings; if the reading swings or the offset does not help, the sensor or control needs replacing.
It can be hard on an oven, especially an older one, because the very high heat of self-clean is a common trigger for blown thermal fuses, failed door locks and control board faults. Wipe out heavy spills first, take out the racks unless the manual says they can stay in, and stay home while the cycle runs. For light cleaning, a damp cloth and baking soda paste is gentler.
Every oven repair is covered by a 90-day warranty on both parts and labour. If the same fault comes back within 90 days, we return and fix it at no charge.
