These are the dishwasher faults Oak Bay homeowners call us about most, with the causes we usually find. Drain pumps, door latches, inlet valves and heating elements are stocked in our vans, so most dishwashers are running again after the first visit.
Usually a clogged filter at the bottom of the tub, a kinked or blocked drain hose, a garbage disposal knockout plug that was never removed, or a failed drain pump.
Most often a clogged filter or spray arms with blocked holes. A weak wash pump, a water inlet valve that underfills the tub or water that is not hot enough will leave the same film and food.
A worn door gasket, a loose hose connection underneath or a leaking pump seal. Hand dish soap used by mistake also foams out of the door.
Often a faulty door latch or switch, a blown thermal fuse or a control board fault. Check first that child lock or delay start has not been switched on by accident.
A failed heating element, vent or fan on models that use them. Many newer dishwashers dry by condensation and rely on rinse aid, so an empty dispenser is worth checking first.
Grinding usually means glass or a bone chip in the wash pump, and humming without draining points to a stuck drain pump. Error codes and flashing lights narrow down the fault before we test it.
Water pooling under the dishwasher? Close the water supply valve under the kitchen sink and switch the dishwasher off at the breaker, since many are wired directly. Keep the door shut, wipe up what you can and give us a call.

The price depends on which part has failed, and you get the exact figure before any work starts. Clearing a blockage or replacing a door latch, inlet valve or gasket sits at the lower end, while a wash motor, control board or heating element costs the most. The service call fee is waived when you go ahead with the repair.
Yes, in most cases: call before noon and we can usually have your dishwasher running again the same day. We are open every day from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., weekends included, and we tell you up front if a part has to be ordered.
A clogged filter at the bottom of the tub is the most common cause, so remove it and rinse it under the tap first. If your dishwasher drains through a newly installed garbage disposal, the knockout plug inside the disposal inlet may never have been removed. When the filter and hose are clear and water still sits in the tub, the drain pump has usually failed.
Usually because water is not reaching the dishes with enough force: a clogged filter or spray arms with blocked holes are the typical culprits. Running the kitchen tap until the water is hot before you start a cycle also helps. If cleaning is still poor, a weak wash pump or an inlet valve that underfills the tub is the next thing we check.
A worn door gasket or a loose hose connection underneath the unit causes most leaks. Suds from regular hand dish soap will also push water out of the door, so use only dishwasher detergent. If water keeps appearing, close the supply valve under the sink until we can take a look.
Every dishwasher repair is covered by a 90-day warranty on both parts and labour. If the same fault comes back within 90 days, we return and fix it at no charge.
